Behind somofit: A First Look Inside the Founders’ Journey, First Year, and Biggest Wins

From vision to Best of the North Bay—what it really took to bring somofit to life.
One year in and already, somofit has become something bigger than anyone expected.
What began as a vision for a wellness-centered community space inside SOMO Village has, in just twelve months, grown into a daily ritual for hundreds, a hub for connection across generations and professions—and now, officially, Best Gym of the North Bay.
But behind the award, the energy, and the sold-out classes is something quieter. Something harder to see: a relentless commitment to people.
“We had a vision a year ago,” says co-founder Conny. “Now we’re sitting here and we can’t even believe how far we’ve come… but without our members, we could have never achieved this.”
A Vision That Started Long Before the Doors Opened
somofit didn’t begin when the doors opened—it began years earlier, as part of a much larger idea.
“I think we always wanted SOMO Village to be a wellness-focused community,” says co-founder Maciej. “And somofit just solidifies that vision.”
But what emerged wasn’t just a gym.
“It’s not only a place for people to exercise,” he explains. “It’s a great place for our neighbors… to connect with each other. It goes beyond wellness.”
That intention—to build something that blends fitness, connection, and everyday life—became the foundation for everything that followed.
A Space That Brings Everyone Together
Walk into somofit at any hour, and you’ll notice something unusual.
It’s not just who’s there—but who’s there together.
“I see somofit as a bridge,” Conny says. “It just feels like we see every person who partakes in this village at somofit… it really truly feels like a wholesome, connective space where we all come together.”
That includes people you might not expect to cross paths anywhere else.
“It’s really interesting to see different age groups,” Maciej adds. “People in their twenties, in their sixties exercising in one room… you wouldn’t have that opportunity otherwise.”
And beyond the gym floor, those connections ripple outward—into coworking spaces, coffee lines, and daily life across SOMO Village.
“It mixes the spaces,” Lisa explains. “You’ll see cowork members in the gym meeting each other… people that wouldn’t talk to each other otherwise.”
The Heart of It All: Leadership Through Energy and Care
If somofit has a heartbeat, it’s Conny.
As Head Coach and one of the earliest team members, she sets the tone—literally.
“You have to show up every day with enthusiasm,” Maciej says. “Even if you’re doing the fourth class of the day… you set the energy in the room.”
For Conny, that responsibility runs deep.
“I’m always striving to be humble and lead by example,” she says. “Not every day is gonna be perfect, but I’m choosing to do it anyways.”
Her philosophy is simple, but powerful. “I almost look at it as a mirror. Whatever I do… our staff, our coaches, even the members are going to reflect back.”
And what she chooses to reflect is connection; “I connect with members… I check in, know their names… build a thriving culture and community that the space deserves.”
That culture doesn’t stop with her though, “A good leader turns others into leaders,” Conny says.
From front desk staff to coaches, somofit has intentionally cultivated a team that grows together—and lifts each other up.
Behind the Scenes: Building Something From Nothing
From the outside, somofit feels seamless, polished, and intentional.
Behind the scenes? It was anything but easy.
“Quite often I had no idea what I was doing,” Maciej admits.
What carried the founders through wasn’t certainty—but clarity of vision.
“You have an idea… and you have to break it into smaller parts and continuously execute every day,” he says.
Even in moments of doubt.
“We had this conversation probably once a week—‘Is this a mistake?’”
The key, he says, is persistence—and people.
“Without the right team, it’s going to fall flat. You have to surround yourself with the right people.”
And just as importantly: adaptability.
“You can have assumptions, but then reality comes… and you have to be willing to admit that it was not the right decision and move on.”
Designing a Space That Feels Different
From the moment you walk into somofit, it’s clear this isn’t a typical gym.
There’s light. Plants. Texture. Warmth.
That was entirely intentional.
“We wanted somofit to be its own independent… successful business,” says Agata, who led the design, “but also part of this larger vision of SOMO Village.”
Every detail was considered.
“We were putting ourselves in the members’ shoes—how it feels walking into the space… what feels too big, what feels too small.”
The goal? Balance.
“Elegant but functional. Inspiring but relaxing,” she says.
Even the energy of the space was intentional.
“A lot of gyms are very strong masculine energy… we wanted to balance feminine and masculine so everyone feels comfortable.”
And at the core of it all: nature.
“The main inspiration for us is always nature,” Agata says.
The Real Impact: More Than Physical Transformation
The results of somofit aren’t just visible in muscle tone or endurance.
They show up in something deeper.
“I was talking to a member… she said since being at somofit, she feels so much better,” Conny shares.
Not just because of the workouts.
“I think it’s the community… the feeling of being acknowledged… the space itself. It’s healing.”
For many, showing up becomes more than a habit—it becomes a return to self.
“I think people can just be here and be better just by showing up,” she says.
One Year In—and Just Getting Started
Winning Best of the North Bay may mark a milestone—but for the somofit team, it’s also a reflection.
Of consistency. Of care. Of showing up.
“It came at a great time,” Maciej says. “One year anniversary… and winning that award. It’s very special.”
But the real achievement isn’t the title.
It’s the people who made it possible.
“We just want to thank all our members for showing up for us,” Conny says.
Because in the end, somofit isn’t just something the founders built.
It’s something the community built with them.
There’s a phrase that comes up often around SOMO Village:
It takes a village.
At somofit, that idea isn’t just philosophy—it’s practice.
Every class. Every connection. Every early morning and late-night decision.
One year in, the results speak for themselves.
And if this first year is any indication, they’re just getting started.
