When SOMO Cowork opened in October 2022, we hoped to create more than just a place to work. We wanted to build a workspace that felt welcoming, comfortable, and human. A place where people could be productive while also feeling connected to a larger community.
At the time, many people were still figuring out what work looked like after the pandemic. Remote work had become more common, but so had feelings of isolation. Coffee shops were crowded, spare bedrooms had become offices, and many professionals were looking for something in between.
What we didn’t fully anticipate was how quickly SOMO Cowork would become more than a place to work.
The biggest surprise hasn’t been how much the space has grown. It’s been watching the relationships grow alongside it.
Over the past few years, we’ve watched businesses launch, teams grow, books get written, podcasts get recorded, and new ideas take shape. We’ve celebrated promotions, company milestones, and personal achievements. We’ve seen members hire one another, collaborate on projects, make introductions, and build friendships that extend well beyond the workday.
We’ve watched people meet over coffee and end up becoming clients. We’ve seen members cheer each other on through business challenges, celebrate major life milestones, and show up for one another when it mattered most.
Those moments weren’t part of a business plan. They happened because people spent time together.
People often think coworking is about desks, offices, conference rooms, and Wi-Fi. Those things matter, of course. But nearly four years later, what we’ve learned is that the most meaningful part of coworking isn’t the workspace itself.
It’s the people.

As SOMO Village continues to grow, we’re grateful that SOMO Cowork has grown alongside it. What started as a workspace has become a community of entrepreneurs, creatives, remote workers, nonprofits, consultants, and small businesses, each contributing something meaningful to the life of the Village.
Looking back, we’re proud of what SOMO Cowork has become. But more than anything, we’re grateful to the people who made it possible.
